Water Temperature

You will want to make sure that your water is hot but not boiling. The active alkaloid compounds in kratom can withstand high temperatures, but you should not boil kratom powder or the leaves directly in a pot or pour boiling water over them. You will want to use water that has been boiled but is slightly cooled. You could also just heat the water and add it before it reaches the boiling point.

Acidic Ingredients

Kratoms alkaloids have nitrogen. They are stable at high temperatures for long periods of time, but it can have a direct effect on its potency. Therefore, adding acidic ingredients will help decrease the reaction that breaks down the alkaloid compounds. You can add lemon or apple cider vinegar to your tea. It will also help bring more flavor and mask the bitterness that kratom can process.

Sweeteners

One of the biggest complaints among kratom users is its bitter taste. This is why they utilize the “toss and wash” method, which is done by putting the kratom powder in your mouth and immediately washing it down with water. This method could cause the powder to stick in areas of your mouth and cause the bitterness to linger.

Sweeteners added to your kratom tea can help mask the taste. You could use things such as sugar, honey, or juice from a lemon. As you steep your tea, you can add more flavoring such as ginger or cinnamon.

Stirring Your Tea

When preparing kratom tea with powder you may have some powder settle in clumps. This can be very disgusting to drink. You can use a whisk to help break up the lumps of powder. Kava is similar to kratom in the fact that the roots can be made into a tea. Check out our blog on the differences between kava vs kratom to learn more.

Dilution

It will all depend on how you like your tea as to the way you prepare it. You can easily dilute by adding more water when brewing your tea. This will also help calm the bitter taste. Just be aware this will affect the potency of the kratom.

Kratom Dose

Rather you are new to kratom or trying a new strain for the first time, you will want to introduce kratom at the smallest dose. All kratom powder will come with recommended dosing instructions. Be sure that you follow dosing guidelines and you do not exceed more than what is stated. Check out our guides on white vein kratom, green vein kratom, red vein kratom, and yellow vein kratom
